In a secondhand shop today, I spotted a beautiful gilted marble mantel clock. On it was a brass placard which said the clock was present to Mr Platt by the workers of Wirral Colliery on his marriage in 1896. I will take my camera tomorrow and may even buy the clock if the price is right. The clock isn't in brilliant condition but an interesting piece of Wirral history. I can't remember if it was James Platt or W Platt, that's why I normally carry my camera!

Too much for me, if I was flush at the moment then I would bargain them down and buy it. Most of the gilt has worn off, it may be onyx not marble, PM'd you to give you a head start.

Just had a look on Ancestry at the 1901 Census. It reveals that William Platt (aged 29, born in Bickerstaffe, Lancs) was an Undermanager at the Colliery, and was living at Denhall with his Burton-born wife, Rebecca, and their infant son Edward.
