We are both hoping to get a drift lisence and compete in BDC nextyear BRITISH DRIFT CHAMPIONSHIP.

Chris is a good drifter so should be good as we both have completly different ways of drifting.

Incase you done know what it looks like LOL

Already have skyline rear calipers and have ordered some 300zx grooved disks drilled to 4 stud for my motor.

Found the standard handbrake ok but kept getting it stuck up plus the disks and pads need changing so though i may aswell upgrade.

Been told its simple to put this lot on but have no faith in my myself so will need help fitting this lot if anybody wants to help.

Hydraulic Handbrake, the Saviour of Rallying bowdown

I wouldnt have thought of using the handbrake for drifitng, dont you just use the rear wheel driveness to full effect (Kick Throttle, steer, balance throttle ??)

Id offer my Services to help you fit it, but Ive never actually fitted one myself, so I doubt Id be much use. Hel, my Driver hasnt even fitted one, as we still have a standard handbrake in the rallycar...Its on the list tho..

Generally a pin is used in the actual lever mech - this holds the lever in the on position and is perfectly legal.

Dont forget Rally cars doing multi venue rallys are Taxed / tested / insured for driving between stages... wink

Ahhh..Me forgets...

The old Fiat Uno Turbo Rallycars used to have 2 systems on the rear wheels, one for the hyrdaulic, and one for the standard handbrake. Seems like over engineering to me tho

Thats generally used so as when you stop after giving the caar a good trashing, your not locking the hot pads to the disc with the handbrake - this caused hot spots on the discs and encouraged warping of the disks.

Some large and high performance cars still run 2 calipers to get round this, some makers use an inboard drum so the same brakes are not used, and some just rely on brake technology in discs and pads to make sure the same caliper / friction surface can be used for both smile

Got ya...Cheers for clearing it all up. We still need to fit a hydraulic handbrake to the rallycar, the standard one is too much effort to pull for a hairpin, so we dont bother usually. Plus with not having much power, good corners can help us make up time.

Do many drifters actually use the handbrake tho??

depends on the skill of the driver I guess and the track being used, if I was to go from a straight into a corner I'd use it to initiate the drift but if the car had is weight shifted to on side you could clutch kick it out. If you was transitioning from a leftside drift straight into a right then the back end should have enough swing to it in order to not use the Ebrake.

What he said ^^^^^^^^^ plus when sidways slowing the car down with the footbrake can often straighten the car up which is poo so you flick the handbrake to slow you down but keeping you sidways while comming on and off the power.

(every drifter drifts differently)

Check video out

clicky

Videos worth a watch too but your looking for 2mins in for some incar footage and then 2-58ish for the scoobys.

There is more though.

Fitting the wand isnt to hard (well for me it maybe raftl )

This is how its dont (lad in the driftworks chaser in vid sent me info) bon-bon.

the line that fits to the rear port of the handbrake cylinder goes to the rear output on the master cylinder, replacing the stock front-rear line, then the line that fits to the front port of the handbrake cylinder goes to the t-peice at the rear of the car, so replacing the entire front-rear copper line.

Then you just bleed it like normal, and off you go, hydraulic handbrake done!

Just thought i would add this vid as the car initiates at around 120 with the handbrake (hydraulic handbrake) same type i just bought (pitty Phills cars better raftl gives those who dont know abit more imput on why difters use handbrakes.

http://www.vimeo.com/1477552

Also started to finaly get the car ready for the bits i am fitting.

Took the boot off and rear bumper as i will be getting mine nextweek and keep running my other bumper over when i put the car away.

Will be painting the bumper and skirts myself as the cars not getting sprayed till Jan so will be about 4 different colours.

Also started taking the rear subframe off ready to fit the solid bushes and will remove the brake lines and fit the new ones for the handbrake while there.
