Broad97 - Never meant anyone to look a plonker.
We knew nothing of them, and as if any one will see that our journey was long, and many learning curves. You done very well with your locations wink But any funny or adventure stories of those days would be a great addition to this thread. As i didn't grow up around here i was born birkenhead.

Sorry Chris & Pinzgauer i didn't realise, glad its all well that ends well and where not throwing crutches at each other lol.

I think this topic is just getting better and better as the dots begin to join up.

I can now find my uncle and show him the picture and say where the army then lol (kidding)....

I would so much love "friends of Bidston hill" to get involved with this thread as ive been told they know a lot about the tunnels.

And yet the rumors still continue about connecting tunnels etc.
We looked and looked but no joy.

Have you tried contacting them, Mark? I don't think they'll want to get involved, but you never know.

i was speaking to guy over the weekend that is in the process of writing a book about the north end during the war.he informed me that he has researched the tunnels, apparently they were originally built as an ammo dump when the government were in fear of invasion but as this never happened they may have been used as shelters. he also has proof that the vent shaft(there is more than one)is in the grounds of the Club house and is no longer accessible as the council filled it with sand and brick.the guy is gonna drop some pics and maps off and i will (with his permission post them on here

Me and my uncle (previously posted)
Went up to the club house to ask in a round about way about
any vent shaft when we didn't know where it was.

And the lady there didn't know anything about it.
The guy that was out was a member of the "Friends of Bidston Hill" she thought could and would know about it if there was any, but unfortunately he never got back to me after his holidays.

Wow if there is more that would be great.
But i think Joe would agree there cant be any more shafts
from the tunnels we were in, as we looked and looked,
as there was "Supposedly a Exit" Near the "Arm Chair" next to
Boundry road. The exit was on the map, but we could find
nothing in the tunnels, and we looked and double checked.

Club House :
It was named so as its ownership was won on the turn of a card, a club wink

i played in these as a kid (hooligan would be a better word) i am 30 now and we used to play 'allio' in them. I have family down there, i remember nicking a car battery and spotlight of my cousins car and going down there. from what i know they were the air raid shelters for the dock workers from the north end. I can be contacted at [email protected] it was good to see the pictures, i remember making tarzan swings on 'biddy hill' as it was called localy. enough for now tho, thanks for the memories

one other thing, the rows where marked alphabetically with the a,b,c etc painted on the ends of the rows and at the 'Giant rat end' there was a steel door which acces was not obtainable to, this was the ammo room/dump the rest according to an aunt who is 27 million years old and lives and has done forever on hoylake road told me and our mob all about them, the steel door is located on the map at the most eastern end shown on the map, east to find underground (the steel door) but we never found this above ground, i only know it was the most easterly as i had a compass with me and my car battery and spotlight (soz couz gary it was me who nicked it off ya fiesta) i remember also the ladders up to the siren and crapping myself as i hated hieghts more back then, i think they was in a two setup arrangement and not in the best state of repair. i think these should be declassified so the public can visit them, i was one of a privileded few to get in, oh and on about exits, i never did find out if this was true but we was told an entrance/exit is in the yard of the observetary in the yard of the old part, how true this is i do not know. we did think this might be where the siren ladders cam out but without the a-team with us we never broke through lol.

I love the million old aunt stuff lol....
Its a long thread we have running but most of the stuff you mention we found and, you will be pleased to know documented. You can cross check by going back a good few post wink

Yeh we got the letters on the walls.
We seen the Steel Door.
You can see where the "Vent Shaft" comes out wink
Its not in the observatory frown

You didnt leave a moped in there did you?
We think the council has closed this for good now frown
Or until the next person arrives with cutting gear and a digger happy

As Joe says thanks for sharing your thoughts and memories.
