When i get this 1800Si transplant id like to beef it up to around 150Brake or more so i just wud like to hear some views on wot mods will get me there
Im thinkin BMC Ram air carbon iduction kit Decat exhuast and straight thru mid to a performance back box Cams FSE fuel pressure regulator Chip Lightened flywheel
Will this get what im after???
Ive read that mods like this will make the engine very rev happy and this is nice..but standard cranks and rods wont stand up to any more than 7800RPM so i may have to get steel H section rods and A steel balanced crank
This would make the engine lovely and strong but may cost a lot of wonga!
Low pressure turbo has been suggested but how much would it cost for one of these???
Ideas and comments welcome

NOS with a 50BHP shot Those mods should give you around a realistic 35BHP. I'd get the chip so that it can be mapped to the cams but not the fuel pressure regulator otherwise it will cause massive overfuelling and may even lose power. It's usually one or the other.... I was looking a while ago at a light pressure turbo but can't remember who did them but the kit alone was £900 plus the fitting, but would give up to a 25BHP power increase just by itself. I'll have a look around and see if I can find out the details for yer.

In all honesty i think you'll be lucky to get 35BHP. It'll be more resposive and there will be a gain but not much.
Cams add about 8BHP (Zetec figures)
Chip (unless its livemapped with give about 14bhp)
Lightend Flywheel (Wont give anything and seems a pointless mod for your car. With it being lighter it will spin up quicker giving you high revs with the sacrifice of a loss of torque. Then when you change gear the high revs will spindown quicker - For a roadcar it will be a pain in ass to drive around town)
Funnily enough I got chatting to a customer in work that had an Escort GTI tuned to 162BHP. To achieve he spend £1000 on a gasflowed/ported head with cams + doublevalve springs. Also had a piggyback chip and countless other mods. He wants to stick throttlebodies on but I informed him that he'd need uprated management and the Galaxy 2.3 bottomend as the 1.8 crank wont take the stress
All in all the guy had spend about £3-4k on engine work for 160BHP

Fit an ERST motor - gonna be much cheaper to get more bhp from it, and the initial conversion cost probably wont be any more expensive than the RS1800 Dont forget to also uprate your suspension, and especially brakes though

dammit!! The thing is i have a donor car with the !.8 in it and its basically cost me sod all for the engine. The swap is also very very easy to do.35BHP on top of 115 makes 150! so if i get those mods(except maybe the FSE and the flywheel) then ill be happy with RS2000 power. All i need is some poke, not lotsa poke but anythin above 130 at the fly and im happy
Cheers guys

zetec turbo = expensive and un-realistic unless your willing to pay through the nose and replace near enough everything

I know the fezzie rs1800 runs 130bhp as standard. So 150bhp from a 1.8 sounds realistic to me.

i cud easily get 190bhp from the engine but it wud cost thousands, anything is possible, i cud see the far side of 140BHP from the 1.4 but it wud involve a rebore, blueprinted engine running hi lift cams, chip, low pressure turbo, low comp pistons, need i go on!i could blow the 1.4 engine to pieces with just a few mods its that weak,im thinkin of gettin a honda as they are hard as nails

The lightened and balanced flywheel will just help the engine rev up better (You'll also lose torque) and wont increase engine power matey. Apparently, to go from 115 bhp to 130bhp on the 1.8's, its a throttle body and cam change

it is mate cos thats the xr3 power output and all it has is a better set of cams, body and maybe a slightly different program on the ECU. What would happen if i put the 1.8 ecu in on my 1.4????
Just curious, would it give me a 1.8 fuel/air mix and thus up my power/compression and blow my engine up possibly???

Would the power gain be worth all the trouble.
If you going to spend loads on getting more power, may aswell take it up to 200+ BHP

realisticly, zetec engine or zetec turbo'd engine into your car isn't worth the time/effort/expense. you'd be better off going for a CVH engine which is older technology so easier to put into your car, turbo option is more realisticly achiveable as well, performance parts for them are cheaper too

ADAM= i have a 1.8 in my possesion remember, wheres the CVH?? My car is exactly the same as the 1.8 same loom and all, prolly the same radiator but i want the new one as mine is full of radweld. Cost of engine fitting into my car=250 quid max increase in power when conversion completed=45bhp top speed of new engine=at least 130,instead of 115 down big hills lol. If i do the conversion myself with a few mates itll cost about 100 notes and a few cr8s of beer. IT IS gonna happen me thinks, also it will increase the re-sale value of the car! i think im definately goin to a subtle euro look on the outside now as the bodykit does my head in

Ggrrr! The 1.8 is either 105BHP or 115BHP. If you fit 2.0 TB, GTI ECU, GTI MAF, 130spec cams that SHOULD take it to roughly 130spec depending.
Seems strange u didnt jump on my bandwagon and get the 2.0
