Various councils are cancelling Christmas lights. Not being too sure where our council place their lights, as some places are funded by the local shops/communities , but should we follow the crowd and be miseries and save costs on electiricity ?

The Council does not charge for the electricity used. The decorations are installed and removed by private registered companies and are not funded by the Council. It is also up to local business (and private individuals if they wish) to organise the decorations. The Council does not have specific sites they decorate though they may decorate for discretionary reasons. https://www.whatdotheyknow.com/request/christmas_lightsdecorations
There's a real danger that the left will drag Britain back to the 1970s, with secure well-paid jobs, ample housing, properly-funded NHS and social care, free tuition, student grants, final salary pensions, affordable rail fares and fabulous films and music. No Council firework displays again this year.
