Its still free in shopping areas.

Wirral Globe mentioned that although charges would be restored with immediate effect, it could take up to a few weeks to enact that - better start carrying some small change, I guess, as we've no idea exactly when it's going to happen!

Now they’ve got it back should imagine it will be implemented soon as, It won’t help the few shops left in Birkenhead, why pay parking when you can go elsewhere for free! Talking about loose change I’ve noticed quite a few car parks where you can only use your cards. I hate that so try and find elsewhere but guess it will be the norm soon so have to get used to it.
