The same as everyone else I woke to a bitterly cold morning which had me thinking about heating costs. I know theres a warm home scheme but only if your supplier uses it .I think at this time of covid Pensioners are being ignored. Most pensioners I know go to lunch clubs ,they cant. Some just walk around the shops to keep warm ,they cant so where do they get the extra money to cover additional heating & food costs. The Government are helping workers ,furloughed etc but no mention of any help for pensioners .There is £25 but only if temperature falls below freezing for 7(?) days . If you have elderly neighbours ring them to check if theyre o.k please.

Yes, the 'stay at home' instruction will be hard for some people. As for the daily exercise, not everyone wants to go out in the cold and there's only so long you can wander round a supermarket in a mask - especially if you haven't much money to spend. These are the hidden victims of the restrictions and have to rely on neighbourhood networks for help.

I agree linkle. The pensioners haven't even had a mention so far. Many would go to a library and keep warm. All these places , what we might call 'refuge' during cold weather, are closed.
Not only that but also shopping locally, instead of going to the the big supermarkets for fear of picking the virus up on public transport, is also expensive.

However, pensioners get their pension, and despite it being difficult to manage, at least they are secure in knowing how much and when. So I suppose we are better off than many others. If the country is expected to bail everyone out, I think it's a bit of a tall order, but the heating is a problem. I;m in bed at 8.30pm most nights. It is getting earlier , and the only place I can keep warm .
I'm pretty fit really, but many are not and I do have concern for them at these times, and some are afraid to answer their doors to strangers. Horrible !

Not one person has given any consideration or raised any agenda for these people .Well done to you for raising the matter.

If anybody is genuinely having trouble paying their energy bills, the energy companies have a duty under law to help them out. The companies have repeatedly been reminded about their obligations which have been enhanced during the Covid period and they are well aware of them.

There are numerous organisations helping vulnerable people during covid, if you need help or know of someone that does, contact the Wirral Council on

0151 666 5050

or for out of hours emergency 0151 677 6557

If you need anything eg food, clothing, bedding, assistance etc call that number, this is the central contact point for the numerous organisations that are providing assistance.
