I was called today by a recorded robotic sounding female voice with an English accent, advising me that someone had withdrawn £600 from my Barclaycard account. If I suspected it was fraudulently withdrawn, to press "1" on the phone keypad.
I hung up immediately and called Barclaycard, who assured me nothing had been withdrawn from my account and it was the latest scam.

If you're the slightest bit suspicious, HANG UP! don't use the dial back function on the phone and call Barclaycard with a known number.

Had a few like that they are doing the rounds, just over an hour ago message left on the answering machine saying £600 pound has been withdrawn from our account and deposited in a foreign account, funny enough we had the same message about a month ago I went to draw some money out about a week after the call and out of curiosity asked the girl if there had been any suspicious activity in the account she looked up and said £600 I must have gone white because she said don't worry nearly everyone that has come in has asked the same thing.

Just as a matter of interest , I think I'm right in saying that the Banks would not call like that 'off hand' over the telephone. So if anyone phones claiming to be your bank , it won't be.

The same applied to BT when I got a call saying unless I paid my bill immediately, they would cut off the phone line. BT said they would never handle an issue of such nature that way over the phone.

I nearly got caught a couple of weeks ago. Someone had forwarded me an add for £100 shopping voucher for Tesco. Fill in this, fill in that , name ,address , email. and then press enter. Even I did that like a stupid cow. Up popped a phone number to phone and that's when I had second thoughts.

2 days later, and whether it was related or not I don't know , but I don't think so , after clicking on a link my laptop got a security warning flashing which I could not get rid of. Telling me not to close my laptop down and to phone a number as I was in jeopardy of a virus infiltrating my computer etc.
Anyway, on the advice of my son, I did close it down and on re booting it was gone and nothing has transpired since .

We have had the £600 attempted scam several times. More recently we have
had a variation:-

Female American voice recording on phone offers to renew
Amazon Prime subscription for £39 which as ours has lapsed was a possibility.
However it's obviously a scam because it is a recording and not specific to us,
they just want you to press "1" .

I also receive several e-mails a week which look as if they come from a member
of a group of workmates which I'm in. Somebody has got hold of the mailing list
and use it to send out all sorts of links which they hope you will click on.

But don't always just ignore these calls. I got a call on my mobile from a mobile number which I didn't recognise. They told me they were my bank's fraud department and they thought there'd been fraudulent activity on my account. Went on to ask for personal details to confirm that they were speaking to me (well THEY called ME). Suspicious, I immediately hung up, but then checked on my computer and called the fraud line using the number given there. It turned out that my account had been fraudulently used. Luckily they'd spotted the transactions (late at night, a very small one, followed by a much larger one) and they were able to stop it straight away.
My point is that they'd called me from a mobile, which I automatically assumed was the sign of a scam

I had a fraud-check txt arrive this morning, it was was genuine, someone tried to take roughly £1,100, £2,200 and £24,000 pounds out on my credit card, barclayard detected and blocked two of the withdrawals but missed the middle one. All of them went out to travel company names.

Most annoying thing is that I've had this card number for many years, its imprinted on my forehead and now its going to change.
