Hi everyone

Claughton Village Post Office and Fat Lolly Sams (next door) have been closed for the last few days. They are leased by a man named Christian Hercules. Do hope we dont lose our wonderful Post Office.

Does anybody know any more? Hursts the bakers are being inundated by enquiries and have put a sign up to say dont ask us!

There seems to be a number of Post Offices on the Wirral where they have suspended the Post Master or put them under investigation, it seems to be a back-door way to close post offices.

There's a real danger that the left will drag Britain back to the 1970s, with secure well-paid jobs, ample housing, properly-funded NHS and social care, free tuition, student grants, final salary pensions, affordable rail fares and fabulous films and music. David Osland 2025

this ploy of suspending Post Masters under trivial errors of procedure has been going on for many years and is defiantly a back door way of closing post office down. this method was been using in the Warrington and Widnes areas approximately 8 to 10 years ago.

So sad to see any Post Office close. Claughton Village is vital for so many people. Especially local elderly people. I think its more likely connected with the Fat Lolly Sam's closure and the lessee of these three properties adjacent to each other. I do hope the Post Office steps in and sorts this out.

Up to now, it's Reeds Lane, Upton Village and Claughton Village all very well used Post Offices closed, there must be some ulterior motive behind this.

There was Wallasey Village (Grove Road) and Wallasey (Seabank Road) closed as well.

Uptons opening again. Seems there been a long term glitch in Post Office computer systems that has resulted in some Postmasters being accused of
theft

Interesting to hear of other Wirral closures and re-opening.

Im not sure if its the Post Office UK that is responsible for keeping the branch open or just the person renting the whole shop and running a gifts and sweeties section? Presumably they sublet to Post Office UK? Or would Post Office UK be renting direct from owner of all 3 properties?

Complicated but just hope it isnt gone for good.

Post offices are franchises and the franchisee has to comply with the franchise rules including opening hours.

There is no charge for the franchise, the shop receives commission on all post office transactions. The training, equipment and fittings are provided free by the post office.

It’s a really good deal but you have to work hard.

Many thanks for that. Ive always wondered how they operate. So its more down to people not wanting to run them rather than the national Post Office organisation. Hopefully someone will take up the cause again. Its a great location and very busy.

Higher Bebington PO is closing for a short while it moves a few doors away, it is also being upgraded to do more services.
