Japan going to start commercial whaling again, grrrrrr!! Makes me angry and upset. Poor whales will be slaughtered in the most horrible way just because they say it's their culture to eat whale meat and if course profit comes into it!! They won't be satisfied until there is none if these gentle Giants alive , all wiped out by their greed , literally.. It's mostly Asian countries that are to blame for the Elephants being poached just so they can sell the ivory to make beautiful things with , huh NOT beatuful at all , dripping in blood in my opinion. ..What a great world we live in eh.

There is plenty that WE can do and WILL do !

Same as Bear Bating, Dancing Bears, Bear Bile Farms, Dog Meat Festivals, Animal Circuses, Animal Experiments, and a lot more, have been stopped in countries all over the world due to public pressures and organisations that have pushed and got the laws changed . The shame is, our MP's and Governments in the UK continue to allow things to be put on the 'back burner', unless it's bombing Iraq, Syria and Yemen.

This situation with the whales, opens up the problem of any other country following the same agenda, if they so wish. If International rules are about to be broken, as they are in this case, then how about a nuclear war ? Is that also something that we should close our eyes to ?

Whoah....calm your jets, love.

Was just requesting a link.... otherwise the OP is just a 'rant and go', which has no meaningful purpose, does it?

There are loads if petitions going on , I've signed a couple but sure people will find their own and thousands have.! Unfortunately I think the Japanese givernment have made their intentions very clear and will carry them out, B's!!!!! That's all people can do really make their disgust known!
This forum is also a discussion and debate platform so I don't think any post is pointless , as you say 1470.
It brings attention to things and we can all vent our feelings. I'm not great at putting links up as I think you well know , most prob in your view an inept old f--t!!!

Granny I applaud you and your passion for the vile things that go on towards the animals, you put it out there in the open and then as you say it's people power...

Milken Institute Global Conference: How much trouble is our planet actually in? .......... I'd say a lot when, 70 billion animals are bred and killed for human consumption , every year , who knows how the majority are killed, or kept until fat enough ? China and Asia have a pretty bad reputation .

100 million sharks every year

Does anyone really need whale meat, or whale blubber today ? Does anyone really need to eat so much meat today ?

We are meat eaters, if we were all living in the wild we would be eating even more meat than we do now.

A terrible proportion of vegetarians have health problems caused by malnutrition, it is not easy for a human to be a vegetarian, it is even garder to be a vegan. It is even more worrying that we see the return of kids suffering from rickets and other malnourishment problems because their parents have chosen for them to be vegetarians.

Ive seen figures saying vegetarians have more eating disorders etc than meat eaters , but couldnt it be that people already WITH emotional problems /low esteem/eating disorders etc are more likely than confident well balanced people , to choose vegetarianism anyway thinking it will slim them, make them more attractive, healthier etc , but they either go to silly extremes, or arent thinking well enough to eat the veggie diet in a balanced way ? Whats a 'terrible' proportion ? Lets say 25% of vegetarians eat unhealthily , well what proportion of ordinary people on an 'ordinary ' eat everything diet, eat unhealthily? . What % of non vegetarians are unhealthy , badly nourished from eating junk food or over indulging I wonder? Higher I suspect.

Regarding rickets , where is it documented that its just from vegetarian diet that is causing rickets? I thought it was a bit of that , but more so a shortage of Vit D both from an increase in immigrant 'coloured' skin , plus the current culture of a huge number of children sitting inside out of the sunlight playing screen games.

25% of vegetarians compared to 10% of the whole population have malnourishment. In my experience vegetarians are much more careful about their diet so this shows how difficult it is to maintain correct nourishment without meat.

I'm not aware of any relationship between esteem and vegetarianism, if anything I would have assumed those with less esteem would continue to eat meat rather than get themselves labelled?

I'm not a great meat eater these days, unintentionally I go for a few days without meat sometimes, other than that I only eat chicken and fish meats but eat milk, yoghurt and cheese so I'm a long way from vegan. I wouldn't go so far against nature, perhaps a few generations further down line but I'd consider it too fast a change to do it now.

Obesity and salt are major killers and need tackling before other things. I've seen some of the Government's proposals and calorie limits for restaurant meals and ready meals which appear sensible but they really need to censure salt as well, some work has been done but not nearly enough.

I eat in both vegetarian restaurants and carnivorous ones.

I have noticed that the Veggie ones are much more sober quiet places - to my mind much more pleasant places to eat because you can enjoy conversing with your companions without bawling at them.

Your average steakhouse, by contrast, is usually deafening, Not only are these places designed to be as noisy as possible with reflective surfaces and too-loud musak, they tend to attract a much noisier clientele.

I don't know why this should be, but it seems in my experience to be generally the case.

I wonder whether - traditionally, - the human race tended to survive on berries and roots, and a successful hunt was a rare occurrence which was the occasion for enormous merriment, and the traditions have survived.

Is this just me, or has anyone else noticed the phenomenon?
