It was mentioned on Sky News at 6pm, but only vey briefly and didn't say if it had been put out or not.
Humankind has not woven the web of life. We are but one thread within it. Whatever we do to the web, we do to ourselves. All things are bound together. All things connect. ~Chief Seattle

BBC announced it at the same time as most of the other media ie when it came through the news agencies. The 11:14am time on that post is false, they would have needed a crystal ball to state the fire brigade were called at 2:16pm. The fire was put out a few hours ago.
There's a real danger that the left will drag Britain back to the 1970s, with secure well-paid jobs, ample housing, properly-funded NHS and social care, free tuition, student grants, final salary pensions, affordable rail fares and fabulous films and music. It wasn't in the actual refinery bit of the site, apparently. I passed on the M53 just before it went up - noticed a larger than usual flare from the top of a stack, but no big cloud of smoke as in the photos. Thank goodness no-one was hurt. Could have been a lot worse.

Always wondered if the refinery went up would we become an island We already are, the Ellesmere Canal joins the Manchester Ship Canal at Ellesmere Port and the River Dee at Chester. So we are completely surrounded by water via the sea, two rivers and two canals..

Shropshire Union Canal, not the Ellesmere Canal. Between Chester and Ellesmere Port it is called the Ellesmere Canal. It is classed as part of the Shropshire Union Canal for administrative purposes.

I think Wallasey used to be pretty much an island at high tide. A Stanlow-instigated island would be rather more traumatic! Redevelopment of Ellesmere Port would certainly be necessary. Doesn't bear thinking about, really.
