Houses built in Thingwall by Magenta.

On the planning documents linked, March 2015, it states that the land for building house is privately owned.

Local people have said it was Council land . There is also mention in the linked document to garages being on the plot of land mentioned, so I assume it was Council land providing garages for the previous council properties.

The only conclusion is that the Council have sold the land to Magenta,(or a middle man) Mangenta have built 7 houses in total, 4 mid-end terrace and 3 semi-detached.

That seems to have taken away the outlook of the local neighbours of the trees and the play area for children.

These houses are now on Rightmove selling for £175,000, £185,000 and £195,000 and would seem to be vastly overpriced for the area.

What I would like to know is, if it was Council land (which is almost certainly was) why has it been sold to Magenta for them to build houses for sale when there is a huge demand for social housing ?

Is this ethical ?

In 2005 13,100 of the Council's housing stock was handed over to Wirral Partnership Homes which became Magenta Living.

The reason it was transferred was because of £100 million of debt which the Government would write off if the stock was transferred.

The Council gets a percentage of any right-to-buy sales.

One lady said there were 3 streams running underneath, but have no knowledge of where they would come from or lead to or if it's even correct.

That area was riddled with small brooks at one time, Barnston Road, Thingwall Road (and East) and Irby Road had channelised streams created along side the full lengths of the roads to drain somewhat swampy land.

I'm sure you've seen fields in the area get waterlogged quite easily in rainy seasons.

The lack of farm houses shows how soft the ground is/was.

I find that strange , considering the local councillor was supporting the local residents in connection to the building programme. He must have known the land was privately owned, if he didn't, then not worth the salt. I believe it was pre-election time of course, so every vote counts !

Can't say I have seen water logged fields in the immediate area of Thingwall. Drainage seems to be good. Although there are various hot spots on the main road that get flooded easily, one and possibly two of those points are where there is an underground stream or brook.

Irby, is different again and the soil is clay. Wimpey site that was built there in the 1980's was built on near enough swaps. A friend had her garage flooded out on one occasion, but she moved after that, so no idea if it is an on going problem.

There were plenty of farm houses around and about but maybe not agricultural land, more like piggy farms. Will have a look through Tingvelle by Greg Dawson. Always an excellent point of reference.
