Does anybody know where I can get Ribes (Flowering Currant) bushes, preferably bare rooted, i've had one for a few years, it's grown into a magnificent bush, so I would like a few more.

Why not take cuttings from your own shrub.Dead easy and free, just cut a few longish lengths(a foot app.)and stick them in the ground.Probably better to wait now till autumn.

Goredale Nursery, Chester High Road usually have a wide selection of everything. Give them a call : 0151 336 2116 It's worth a walk around anyway, providing you'll be happy to chance leaving with an empty wallet. You can also buy online form various nurseries.

I bought a nice deep pink one from Gordale a couple of weeks ago, in a pot. You'd be unlikely to find bare-rooted at this time of the year, but it might be worth contacting nurseries that sell hedging plants; they might do them. Taking cuttings later in the year would be good if you like the ones you have and are prepared to wait for them to grow.

I'll try a couple of cuttings in the Autumn, but I'll look round in the meantime.

I had a look at Premier Garden Centre, Ledsham today, they had a good selection of Ribes, at least 4 different varieties (about 2 ft high) in pots at £6.00 each or 4 for £20. First time I've been there I was very impressed with the stock, prices and facilities, definitely to be recommended and revisited. (I'll still have a go at cuttings though, just to see if I can do it.)

Plus a café as well...had a nice breakie there next to the log burner one chilly winters day. Are they trying to sell the business? Would have offered a cutting from one in my garden but just been to look and its just dead wood...think my wifes done an "aldi" on it! Despite the books saying you can hard prune them this one didn't like it...
Did see rooting powder on sale in Aldi

It didn't look as if it was for sale, I thought it was very busy for midweek, it looked very prosperous. Didn't have time to try the Cafe, will do next time.
