Or how about having a Chief executive that doesn't cost us over £200,000 a year - its obscene!

There's a real danger that the left will drag Britain back to the 1970s, with secure well-paid jobs, ample housing, properly-funded NHS and social care, free tuition, student grants, final salary pensions, affordable rail fares and fabulous films and music. David Osland 2025

Get rid of half the Councillors that would save enough to keep the care homes and special schools open. They are a waste of space, air and money which could be better spent elsewhere. None of them are in it for the people of Wirral, they are in it for what they can make out of it for themselves.

I am one of the "400" betrayed by Wirral Council. In 2008, after 37 years of service, first in Birkenhead, then Wirral Authority, I retired and was invited to choose between a cash sum (somewhere between £ 100 - £200), a little more in "High Street Vouchers", or a lifetime pass for the leisure facilities, as a thank you from the council for my "loyal service". I chose the pass as I knew that, with advancing age, this would help me keep fit.

And now they want to grab it back! What price loyalty now? I think those still working for Wirral Borough Council should learn from this mean act. Remember the emails from the Chief Executives and Council leaders over the years telling us all what a fine job we are all doing in such difficult circumstances, how the dedication we demonstrate is a lesson for all? Well, now these words are exposed for what they really are - just words. Clearly, this decision to cancel the Life passes has been taken by those with no sense of honour, simply a cowardly team of bean counters and wanabee politicians who hide behind the usual "the changes were put out for consultation" defence. As an individual who would be directly affected by these cuts, I received no notice of any consultation process. If they could afford the stamp to tell me that my pass was cancelled, surely they could afford a stamp to tell me and the other 399 "loyal employees" what they were planning and asking ourviews before they made their decision to stab us in the back?

Shame on you Wirral Council, both Council Officers who drew up the plans and Councillors who approve them. Of course cuts have to be made in the current economic crisis. But, by taking this action against former employees, who you once praised and thanked for their loyalty and efforts on their retirement, and who you now treat with contempt, particularly when there does not appear to be any mention of cuts to finances directly impacting on yourselves, you have demonstrated to the Council workforce and the public at large what mean spirited individuals you are.

Wirral Councils website states

"As an employer, Wirral Council is committed to creating a positive, supportive environment for its staff", and

"Use of the council's leisure centres is offered at a discounted rate for all Wirral Council employees. This includes access to six swimming pools and seven fitness suites across the borough"

Oh yeh?

They need to look at there big fat expenses and stupid coffee machines and carpet for the stairs.

I hope everyone remembers at the next council elections. They have done a crap job, at no expense to themselves.

Crazy wages, crazy benefits.

How Stupid we look.
How can that be justified or acceptable in these years of cut backs.

I dont think running a council is that complicated or a higher level of intelligence, anything above common sense will do just fine. And the living wage will be just fine to pay them.

Fat cats. How much cream can they drink.
