Its mainly peice of mind, as the upgrade will run this test anyway, so its a quicker way of deciding if you want to go ahead.

I have an app that needs to be uninstalled.
But No warning that my current Antivirus and Firewall will be removed.

The advice is to go to your Antivirus or Firewall software provider and check its compatibility.
If its not compatible the advice would probably be to uninstall prior to the upgrade.
In my case the upgrade removed my Antivirus and Firewall software without any warnings.
And replaced it with Windows Defender and Windows Firewall ?? (At least there is something).



Before I run you through the Install process i want to show you what you need to check before you settle in with Windows 10.
You have the 30 days to to roll back, and you can try again. The roll back does work pretty well.

Windows 10 did not predict any hardware problems only a software conflict / incompatibility.
However windows 10 afterwards Device Manager showed 3 Unknown Devices.

Is windows 10 a download that can be saved in downloads and then copied to dvd/cd or a USB stick to be reloaded as needed.
Saying that, my hard drive 1tb in a win 8 laptop asus k55a has suddenly stopped booting up and I may have to put another formatted hard drive in with no windows 8 on or backup

Yes, does a completely fresh install iirc, you will need the product key and its uncertain what happens in a years time if you install from scratch as the upgrade is only free for a year.

This question has been asked many a time on other forums.

Once you upgrade for free within the 1st year, it is free for life.
The upgrade is registered to your computer's Windows Product Key.

It is advisable to perform the upgrade to verify your free upgrade eligibility and to activate your copy of WIndows 10

After this you can perform a clean install

The problem is device drivers, while Microsoft may be unlikely to kill a living Windows 10 computer, they have been quite clear that you only have free Windows 10 for "the expected life of your device" - so they could wipe out device drivers from their database and you might not find this out until you to a clean install.
