Please can anyone spot a replacement 3 pin mains charger on Ebay or anywhere else, for my Samsung GT-C3520 ? Cant find my charger at all , and I like this cheap simple phone. Ive tried Ebay myself without any luck and sadly Amazon is out of stock .

Try starlight in birkenhead market, they may have a generic charger that will fit.

Starlight have got a generic one , thanks Finney . May look at those if a 'real' one cant be sourced . Im a bit worried about generics though, seen quite a few reports about them being a bit prone to electrical faults causing fires. frown

Wondered about that route myself vanman thanks, same problem of generics though and Im not sure about the voltage compatibility but will look into it anyway. ( Has anyone used this shaver two pin to a 3 pin combo for phone charging? Without checking Im thinking it would be too low a voltage)

again a generics problem , but was looking at this because at least Id be sitting with it , but wondered how much of a charge Id get from a half hour journey , which is mostly what I do these days. I suppose if I plugged it in each time I went out it would gradually top up though? ( I hardly use the phone) Once fully charged its brilliant , lasting about 10 days on standby .

Good you're sorted Venice. I never throw out chargers, and now have a drawer full of them, probably about 50!

It is surprising how often you find a charger for a discarded phone or something will fit another appliance. This morning as I was getting dressed, the little Sony DAB radio we have in the bedroom stopped working. It turned out to be the power unit, but I was able to replace it with a charger from a camera that failed after I'd dropped it some years back.

Never throw chargers away!

Does it risk damaging the appliance you're trying one out on though , even if it appears to fit?

Try the car-boots on Sunday, a quick search and you may find an original charger quite cheaply.

That's a good point, well worth checking. There are three things to check:

POLARITY: Some devices have a positive tip, some negative. There's no simple rule as to which is which. More details here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Polarity_symbols

VOLTAGE: If the power supply gives out more voltage than your device uses (i.e. PSU output is 12V and your device is 7.5v) then you risk damage or fire.

CURRENT (amps): This is a little more forgiving. You must make sure your power supply can deliver the current your device requires. If the power supply gives out more (eg 1.2amps and your device is 750 miliamps) then that's fine, your device will just take what's needed.

But it doesn't work the other way. If your device is 1amp and your charger is 1/2 an amp, it won't charge or power correctly. A lot of car cigarette lighter USB chargers are like this and won't deliver the right ampage.

Its a standard micro-usb connector, any micro-usb charger that can supply at least 1 Amp would do. No worries about polarity or voltage as they are standard at +5 Volt on pin 1.
