http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-33591657I gather it was the National Trust who got these opened: perhaps we should ask them to open Tranmere.
Carpe diem.

Urban Explorers got in there about 8 years ago and there have been a number of "visits" since.
Full marks to the National Trust for preservation AND access to our countries heritage.
There's a real danger that the left will drag Britain back to the 1970s, with secure well-paid jobs, ample housing, properly-funded NHS and social care, free tuition, student grants, final salary pensions, affordable rail fares and fabulous films and music. The Stockport Air Raid Shelters are good. Yes, they've done a good job there. I think it was the Council who opened them up.
Carpe diem.

I don't think they officially opened as they were completed after the air raids finished. However it is known that people did shelter in them, possibly unofficially and certainly before they were completed.
The tunnels would have had an official ticketing system but in reality during the war people wouldn't have been turned away unless they had become over-crowded which was unlikely.
