Ive got an item for sale on loot for £40 ono, so not a price worth scamming for I wouldnt have thought . Got a no-reply email through Loot saying there was a message from an interested party , message was 'I am interested in your item , is it still available whats your best price' , and the persons email address which is [email protected].

Ive never used Loot before, but with Gumtree etc, you can email back to the enquirer through Gumtree , so not revealing your email address.
Felt uneasy, so googled [email protected] and it brought this up from 2 years ago.

http://whocallsme.com/Phone-Number.aspx/8056663720 which if you google it , youll see appears to be linked to that email address in the first article.

Thats in America . The gmail address is the same, but its hard to believe Im about to be scammed for something so trivial ? I havent emailed a reply yet . Am I misconstruing this in some way?Dont want to take chances, but dont want to miss a sale if Im just linking things wrongly and really its a local sale . I presume theres no risk in emailing vestus 13 with a yes its available £35 bottom line ,and see what they reply?

I think I might have answered my own question . The Loot mail came in via my hotmail account , so I could look at the source.

x-store-info:J++/JTCzmObr++wNraA4Pa4f5Xd6uensydyekesGC2M=
Authentication-Results: hotmail.com; spf=pass (sender IP is 54.240.9.118) smtp.mailfrom=0000014d3da0f0b3-3fae3d48-415b-40d8-863d-f3dce67be210-000000@amazonses.com; dkim=none header.d=loot.com; x-hmca=none [email protected]
X-SID-PRA: [email protected]

I put the IP number into Google and it brought this up

http://anti-hacker-alliance.com/index.php?details=54.240.9.118

so that makes it look as if my email wasnt from the real Loot at all???

Ssurely hackers wouldnt be using the same IP two years on would they?

Hi venice. I use an old email account for suspicious emails or for contacting people I am initially uncertain about.
Not always trustworthy putting things into a search engine . If you put your own mobile number or whatever into a search engine it seems to automatically appear on a number of websites.
What you need to be careful about is "phishing" so don't reply to any link in the supposed email from Loot. Always go into Loot by typing in their website address.
Might be possible that the email you received is computer generated in response to a word in your ad. Not sure how Loot filter that from happening.
Not used Loot for years so don't know if you get emails direct to your registered Loot account like you do with ebay
good luck with your sale

By replying you will add your e-mail address to an active list.
And then be targeted in the future at worst.

There are false positives with every list, your own gut feeling should be your best guide.

ok thanks fish and Mark. I dont understand the workings of the internet enough to mess about taking chances , so I think Ill just ignore it as I havent got an old email address at present that I wouldnt mind being 'listed by scammers' . Just have to hope the next enquirer doesnt seem suspicious! Thanks.

What I dont understand is how the message appeared to come from Loot - I didnt put my email in the ad or anything , only privately to Loot whilst registering the ad. How could a scammer get my email address from the ad?

By the sound of it its generic and not specific email. So its not directly at you.

But remember your bank will never email you for any details from you.

Try listing on Preloved, they have a messaging system to communicate through.

Thanks Mark. Yes I defo dont deal with anything from banks even by phone , I always tell them Ill pop in . Gibbo thanks, yes I do use Preloved as well. Main problem is people saying they deinitely want things and then dont show ,but youre not sure whether you're free to offer item elsewhere in the meantime
