"A further £100,000 will come from introducing car parking charges at Fort Perch Rock, Royden Park, Wirral Country Park, Arrowe Country Park and Eastham Country Park."

The Globe reports on more Council cuts.
http://www.wirralglobe.co.uk/news/1..._cuts_package_for_Wirral_Council/?ref=mr

They have driven the locals away during the summer months from New Brighton and now a pot-shot at the tourist trade.

I don't know about the other car parking sites but no doubt some of you will.

I know they have to save money somewhere, but I am SO not impressed by that suggestion. Wirral, The Leisure Peninsula? Hah!

Just when New Brighton was starting to get a busier, they now want to kill it with the ludicrous parking charges they have around the rest the Wirral, which is killing business in the town centre of Birkenhead and Liscard,we now have the New Birkenhead, the Croft centre in Bromborough, why because it's free parking, tomorrow I will be shopping in swinging Widnes why, because it's free parking, the place is buzzing and the shopping from the market to M&S is excellent,Labour Wirral the place to come and sleep.

Going to have to pay to go to parks that they are not going to cut the grass at (except the footy ptches)
Just been sent the full list of current suggestions.

If they can make nearly 30 million pound savings each year for 3 years its just shows how much weve been riipeed off by them previously.

Indirectly its just to pay for our global wars

It seems to me that the council just ignore the residents and do their own thing including fully paid for trips to China its absolutely ludicrous, why do they need to go to China when council employees and people in need of care are penalised through lack of funds ..................

All feeding at the trough... Met with several councillors yesterday. Walter in particular would have been hilarious if the topic wasn't so grim

This is in the latest "Have your say on the future
of Wirral Council services" survey which I received by email today. It really does defy belief that consideration should even be given to proposals to charge for parking at the places mentioned.I hope that many people will let the council know what they really think of this and other proposals contained in the survey.

Exactly!

They're working with Cheshire West to create savings, yet Cheshire West have just announced £15m to be spent on a leisure project in Ellesmere Port.

http://www.wirralglobe.co.uk/news/1...15m_leisure_project__for_Ellesmere_Port/

I wonder how much of the Wirral residents council tax will be used to fund this scheme?

This council seems to take money from its residents pockets and either spend it for their own personal gain or on projects away from the Wirral.

Charging people to park in outdoor spaces will result in major problems for residents nearby plus it will cost more to monitor than receipts.

It will deter people from visiting places that need tourism.
Much more economic to put council tax up.

This money they have lent to other Councils at an appalling low rate - why aren't they using it in Wirral?

The work of the Council is now so complicated that you would need a degree in the subject to understand how it all works. In my lifetime, councillors worked on behalf of the community for expenses only and came from, most often, successful business backgrounds.

Far too much legislation results in procedures that, in effect, toss our money down the drain instead of producing something useful.

Make no mistake, there are many with degrees, working within the council. Another little scheme, thought up by the labour government. Those with years of experience were sort of, disposed of, to create space for all those new graduates. Two bit kids, on much higher salaries, which enabled them to pay back the student loans which they all had, and to help protect the financial services who lent the money, from going bust. Once in they got another degree on 'bad practice'.There was probably a high degree on nepotism in the council at one time too.Which would indicate that people did not necessarily have the skills needed to to the job properly and errors would be covered up. A bit like a secret service .Banks would never all ow relatives to work in the same branch, that was husband/wife,brother/sister,fiances, etc. for security and collusion reasons.
The councillors are quite often something else. Half of them don't know their arse from their elbow, have little knowledge of what goes on in their own backyard.Get voted in on the pretence that they got a hole filled in down Merry Lane, and yellow lines re-painted along Suckers Way. Some think they have something to offer and should be looked up to because they attend meetings. Ha! More man hours lost in 'meetings'than conclussions gained, according to time and motions studies.
Wirral is not a tourist destination now. It's a cul-de-sac with nowhere to go. Who would go to Birkenhead for a day out? Who would go to Seacombe for a day out? Masses of money poured into the terminals for Liverpool visitors to explore...Visitors would probably rather stay in Liverpool, it looks a bit more appetizing. The council don't think about their own ,what they hope to do is probably, get money poured into Wirral from funding for next years golf. Make the most out of those who want to visit and have no choice but to pay, crucify the people who make an effort to support any events that might be left to attend, then they'll wonder for example, why the ticket sales for the Floral Pavilion have plummeted and the Fort (after doing amazing things to keep itself going, over the years) has got to close. Back to the beginning again! clap

Parking in Heswall (where the car parks are now 3/4 empty) - £1.05 per hour - Parking in Mold £0.20 for 3 hours.

Also in Heswall - stasi-like hit squads on scooters - who will ticket you if you are 1 minute late....

All very discouraging to the shopping experience here - no wonder the traders are worried..

Seems to be the difference is, Mold wants to encourage shoppers, while Wirral wants a pound of flesh for every time you leave the house.

From my view from the fort as a volunteer in the Marine Radio museum ,we get loads of visitors from around the world, this year we have had a number of people who told us they were going up to the Lakes/Scotland with their caravans/campers and decided they would pop down to Wirral as it's a hidden gem so someone had told them from where ever they come from, even with the rain yesterday we had a some visitors who are staying at the hotel for a few days, doing the area and ferry and as it's safe free parking etc, start charging for parking at New Brighton and it will kill stone dead the tourism which is just restarting, maybe the Councillors have eyes just on the clouds in the sky Wirral Waters and couldn't care less as they know if they wear a red rosette they will get voted back in again.

"plenty more places to go" whisper it, otherwise they'll be charging for those as well!

They could charge outside the town hall instead of hitting tourists and day trippers. £5 per day, say 50 spaces would bring in around £60,000 a year. But then this would hit the council workers so they are not going to do the obvious are they.

I did ask about why they don't charge there and was told it was for the residents use, I would love to see all residents fill it on a Monday morning before the flexi time council get there. :-)

More despair. I read in the Liverpool Daily Post that Wirral has borrowed £25m at a rate of over 4% so how on earth do they justify lending at less than 1%. Is there anyone there?????????

Of course, I, not being a resident, am not affected by all these machinations: if it's any comfort, you're not alone, Shropshire is just as bad.

Ah the Tories - they were 'brilliant' the last time they were in - and acted like the opposition moaning about the previous incumbents and coming up with nothing constructive.

I personally think we have been poorly-served by all colours of the local parties for at least the last 20 years.

The rate things are going the 66 councillors will be the largest collectively-employed group on the Wirral....! and the least-qualified.

I do agree with you on this (must be a first time)
