Hi all,

I know it's a long shot, but does anyone know where any old photos can be found of the former Ellerman Lines Cricket Ground near Carr Lane, Hoylake? I understand the cricket ground has been disused since the 1970s.

As there are plans to build new houses on the site, this morning I have photographed the site in its current state (a neglected, overgrown field). I wanted to do this before it is built on, and because someone on Wikipedia recently asked me to get some photos of the site, for the article on the cricket ground. It apparently used to host "List A" cricket matches back in the day, so was a notable ground at the time.

Whilst the photos I've taken of the disused site are better than no photos at all, it would be really great if we can find a photo taken when the site was still an active cricket ground, for possible use in the Wikipedia article.

I'm not sure if any such photo even exists, but in any case thanks very much for any possible help,

Best Regards,
Paul

Hi kenmo52,

Thanks very much for the quick reply. Yes I have that document thanks. It allowed me to locate the site of the former ground.

Although, I haven't read all of the PDF just yet. I will indeed read it a bit more thoroughly to see if I can find any more info out from it. I agree it's a good start, to learn things about this site.

Also, if anyone's interested, I've uploaded the photos I took of the site this morning to Wikimedia Commons here:- http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Category:Ellerman_Lines_Cricket_Ground_%28disused%29

Cheers, Paul

The records of the Ellerman Line are held by Glasgow University Archive Services (http://www.gla.ac.uk/services/archives).

The collection includes photograpks from 1839 to the 1970s, si it's just possible there may be some of the cricket ground.

Hi uptoncx,

Thanks very much for the link. I will certainly check it out at next opportunity!
