Today our Protected circuits switch has been tripping, cutting off certain circuits such as upstairs lights, sockets, etc. This usually happens when a bulb blows but now is happening every few hours with apparently no reason.
Can anyone help us identify what's causing it.
Thanks

a bit of faffing about but you could try turning everything off and then turning things on one by one, if it is one of your appliances ie;washer, dryer you might be able to find out the cause. this kept happening to me a while ago and we figured out my dryer had a metal clip in the condeser that kept tripping. hope this helps

Ok so we have narrowed it down to 2 double sockets. One with washing machine on and one with freezer on. These are newish sockets that were fitted maybe 6 months or son ago. So what is the fault likely to be?

if you cant pin it down to one appliance maybe a loose wire in one of the sockets. if you are confident enough try looking to make sure the wires are in properly....turn your electric off.... if not get someone else to do it. good luck

Right think we may have sussed. We had an outside extension socket plugged in to one of the sockets in the kitchen and it had fallen over and was obv getting wet with the rain. Dried it off a little and stood it back up and all seems to be ok so far.
Many thanks for your help
