50 years or so ago there were a handful of pictures of local scenes (Leasowe Lighthouse etc) painted directly onto the concrete walls of Leasowe station on the ticket collector's side. Over the years these faded until only the red frames remained. Even these disappeared when the station was revamped. However, one still remains (barely!) It is a view of Leasowe Castle and it is painted on the main pillar for the footbridge. Does anyone recall these? Are there any pictures available and is the artist known?

I understand the paintings were done by a bored gate operator/signalman at the road crossing.
