Paul Daniels' ring and index finger have been surgically reattached after the magician accidentally sliced them off with a circular saw at his home in Wargrave, Berkshire.
The TV star cut through his left hand while creating props for his act in his garden shed on New Year's Day.
As he tried to fit a safety guard to the power tool his hand slipped and the blade cut off the top of his ring finger and badly damaged his forefinger and little finger.
In agony and with blood spurting from his fingers, Paul jumped into his car and drove himself to Towlands Hospital, about 25 minutes away in Henley-on-Thames, Oxfordshire,
But the entertainer - whose wife Debbie McGee was out working on a local radio show - had little time to think about his injuries.
'My head was full of pain and the possible end of the magic,' he explained to the Daily Mirror.
Following emergency surgery, the 73-year-old now fears his injuries may hinder his performance on stage as it remains unknown as to whether he will regain the full use of his fingers.
'I’m keeping one and a half fingers crossed,' he joked.
However, Paul says his latest 26-date tour of the UK - due to begin in Southsea, Portsmouth, on February 22 - will still go ahead as planned.
And he revealed he was being well looked after by Debbie.
'She has been wonderful, giving me lots of TLC as my official nurse,' he said
