Aside from all that, the SI's scorts are nice motors!
Might i point out one thing....I thought you were struggling for insurance?! You couldnt do such mods and not tell the insurance and surely such a "tuned" engine would result in insurance rocketing? Why not get a bigger engine in the first place?

This will happen over time and hopefully the insurance wont go too mad with each mod. We will just have to see. Insurance renewal is due in under a month so i may give the performance specialists a try???

Spats have arrived! problem is the factory ford mudguards have scuffed the paint where they sit against the bumper. Also the bumper has a spot where it has been touched up. Thinkin about spraying the whole rear bumper when i spray the spats? Ill give it a good wash and try to T-cut the scuffs out. The touch up will get re-done and see if it makes it go away. Do all this at the weekend if i have 30 quid spare to get all the materials for spraying. Spats are in A1 condition and genuine RS items too

The newer 1.6 motors arent as tunable due to the ECU and the electronic ingnition is much harder to draw a few gee gees from Theres no substitute for capacity - if your gonna do anything go 2.0, though any drastic gains from std will be expensive due to the std engine managment Good luck though, good to see you back with another car!

1.6 Zetec has smaller than average pistons too which limit it capability. For the money everythings going cost it'd be much cheaper to put a 2.0 zetec put in and then you've got power as standard and a better gain in torque as well

would you not be better leaving it standard, saving your money and buying a sports car in a few years with you saved money?
IMO a fast car as standard is ten times better than a slow car made to look/go faster.
Hence why i am saving up for a DC5 Teg

1.8JEST ECU may get dropped in? Im researchin this as we speak and if it works the engine will be fed a little bit more fuel/air thus giving a tiny few more gee gee's. Found loadsa cool Ford owners clubs where a lot of people are tuning all sorts of ford engines to the nines. 2.0ltr would be nice but if i did do it that means ive wasted money on the 1.8 ive bought and the insurance will be just CRAZY. Also the 2.0ltr fit needs a lot of work as the ECU is incompatable unless the loom is totally adapted. And I'd like to see Rennies face when he is blown away by a 1600 hahaha. or an 1800. Depends how the 1800 is these days and if i can just swap the block or not. Pullin two engines is gonna be pap

Problem is the ECU is restrictive, fit a 1.8 ecu to a 1.6 motor, and you get fueling problems. Ideally a custom ECU is better, or even new managment, but Ill take a stab at new managment costing more than the car lol 2.0, Filter, zorst, cams and some head work

New plan
1.8 engine in and 1.8 ECU with Chip 2.0 Cams 2.0 TB and 2.0 MAF BMC carbon air box, FSE boost valve and full zorst inc de-cat(pumaspeed manifold is a maybe) Few more little bits as i learn more etc.. Should get me easily over 130(XR3 power)
Flamer kit is a must have. Body and interior need work first tho so the engine wont be touched really (apart from the TB/MAF) until i got that sorted

listen to stuy, 2.0 litre lump, more power, more tourque etc, you then dont have to touch the engine again and put the rest of your cash in to its looks. from MY personal point of view thats what you should do. Trust me scoop i spent alot of money on silly things for my engine that done sod all.

2.0TB and MAF have arrived along with a spare 1.6 TB from the guy. Think ill put them on and see how the car behaves. The TB doesnt look any bigger anyway. The actual thing is bigger but the bore of the inside and the butterfly look exactly the same as the spare 1.6 one he gave me?
We will see how it goes
Also just had an incredible idea. Ill take the 1.8 intake tract and stick it on the 1.6 thus keeping the air cooler as the 1.8 intake doesnt run over the rocker cover,it goes round the engine bay. Bosch

Will the ECU work with the bigger MAF and TB And if it "works" will it adapt to the increased air volume they will flow?
