1) does an employer have to provide a safe and clean area for you to consume your lunch / keep your gear? (personal items, tools etc)
2)do they have to provide toilet facilities?
and washing for hands as it is can involve you to become dirty with dust mud etc ?
3)if a job was advertised at mon - fri 8 - 5 and you are asked to work weekends do you have to ?

They have to supply hotwater and toilit and clean a rest room where you can have your lunch. This come under the Healty and safety act.

You get paid for doing overtime at the weekend.
if your working week is 38hrs working you have to do aleast 4hrs overtime for the company. Then you can refused extra hrs.And they can not do anything about it.

There is no legal entitlement to above normal pay for overtime or bank holidays - its down to your contract of employment which your employer has to provide.

Excessive overtime comes under the working time directive, which states that your employer can only insist on you working up to 48 hours a week (averaged out over some period of time), beyond those hours is voluntary which you have to sign to agree to.

It is a legal requirement that they provide you with a contract of employment. Saying that, I was a civil servant for nearly 30 years and they didn't.

It would depend on how long you have worked there and what it says in your contract of employment. I should imagine if they gave you a contract of employment now, weekend work would be included. Facilities must be provided unless you come under mobile workers. If you've worked there under twelve months, they can just let you go as being unsuitable. You might have some success if you can prove bullying and harrasment. Hard one to prove though. Speak to your Union RIO if you are in a Union. if not, join one

Ring acas they will tell you your rights in your particular trade/ industry. e.g. if you are working with motor oils they have to provide showers or equivalent because motor oil can cause cancer.
