I just read this and I might be naive but what do they do with them once they have stolen them? Surely if they try to weigh them in somewhere the people they are selling to would know they sre robbed??

People who rob things like that normally stick them on their walls

I think it's far worse people just smashing things up or covering it in spray-paint or chewing gum. If someone has taken it as a souvenir for their wall then at least they have some knowledge of who Mr. Fraser was. Penny Lane roadsigns were always getting nicked by Japanese and American tourists. Eventually the City Council just gave up and painted on a sign.

I had the honour of meeting the man him self and his wife a few years ago at the RNA Submarine reunion in the Adephi hotel.A terrible thing to happen to the memory of a true War hero and a very nice Gentleman and his wife. You cant get any lower than a snakes ass and thats what the thieves are.

I always feel sad when I read something like this. I wish I knew what they get out of it (apart from money probably from selling it or melting it down for scrap). Surely if someone is offered this for scrap they'd inform the Police, or do I just live in a world of my own where people have good morals?

So sad.

Sometimes Police Officers give more than just speeding tickets!

I would imagine they just see the plaque's as a piece of metal with writing on. Some people just don't feel the need to look any further than that. (some just don't care about what the guy did, either).

As for melting it down, anyone can make a crude furnace for melting down this kind of scrap. Melt it to rough ingots and sell it on, easy.

This is sad & sick. I used to work for Ian. I went to his funeral. I went to the dedication service for this plaque.
If I remember correctly it was only made of thin alloy so would be worth nothing as scrap.

They dont even go that far as melting it down. Smash it up and deface it with a hammer, mix it with other metals of the same in bits, no ones gonna look at the scrappies! I would like to drive a midget submarine up their arses if caught!!!
You know what, theres ... and then theres ... of the earth, wot the fook is this society coming to??
Stop the world....I want to get off comes to mind! somad

I can't even bring myself to write this great mans name in the same sentence as the lowlife that done this, once again it shows how low some ... will go to turn in a profit.
Once again i feel that all this goes on because of the total lack of retribution these lowlifes face when caught. To think this brave man and others like him done what they did, only for this country to fall into the decline like it has.

God help us,
Come yourself,
Don't send Jesus,
This is no place for children.
