Where does he live?
Somewhere with no shops to go to?
Don't get me wrong, I'd love to have a play, but people at Sainsbury's would hate me!

Yes, I do have daily car/modern tinware. The Pinz is VERY practcal indeed. That's why I bought it ! In the snows (I live at 730'ASL and very exposed, fields on all sides) it's only the tractor and the Pinz that gets down to the public road. Regularly pull stuck LR's out. Every couple of weeks or so, I take building materials, walking gear, nosh/alch's to a remote spot in the Borders. LR's struggle and I know of a Volvo 4x4 that didn't make it and did over a grand's worth of damage (rock crawling). Oh yes, nearly forgot the river. A Mountain Rescue LR had to wait 3hrs to get across on a practice rescue 3 yrs back. Same flow and depth (there's a Staff Gauge on the bank), the Pinz crossed OK.
Yes, it IS fun to drive (I pay dearly for it though) but your comment "I can't think of anything more impractical" is the most laughable comment under the circumstances. How many Pinzgauers have you driven, 4 or 6 leggers ? It is THE most practical vehicle for me and the uses I put it to. I've previously owned LR's., a Haflinger, a 4x4 Pinz in the past as well. To repeat, the 6x6 is very practical indeed. Pleasing to the eye it is not, but I don't loose any sleep over that !
When you have owned Steyr-Daimler-Puch's continuously for nearly 36yrs I think I know what is practical and what is not.
No disrespects Alex, but enquire after the facts first and do your homework.

Just seen your 2nd post Alex (I type too slowly). Funnily enough I call in at a Sainsbury's en route to the bothy for a few day's grub. YES, that can be a barrel of laughs ! Sainsbury's seem to have slots that are about 6" narrower than ASDA's, Tesco's et al.
With no power steering, I'm the guy with biceps like Popeye at the checkout ! ha.ha.
Always keep the "Reserve Provisions" shelf ram-jam full in the winter just in case.

pp. I'll have a word with my bank manager and drive down to the boat soon. You can take the Pinz for a play if I can chug over that superb Froncysyllte(?) Viaduct in your floating palace.
A deal ??

If you'd seen where I live then you'd realise why I said I couldn't think of anything more impractical - for me, obviously! I didn't for one second think you lived in a 2 up, 2 down on the Woody

It's a horses for courses sketch I guess Alex. I don't think the poor old Pinz would last 2 minutes on the Woody. (Oh Hell, sorry, I don't want to upset the folk who live there - I retract my comment rapido !) Gulp !
Dives behind (empty) sofa !

Dives behind (empty) sofa ! Not much lasts long on the Woody! (Jokes, again, if you live there!) Hehe, well I'd love to see the Pinz in action, in fact I'm off to do some Googling. My car won't even get off the driveway when it snows, as similar as chalk and cheese our cars are.

If you've plenty of time to spare, tap in "Pinzgauer" or "Pinzgauer 6x6" into Youtube. Enjoy !
I bet that in your car Alex, you can have a civilised conversation over the (little) noise of the engine. That's GOT to be worth a lot. Chriskay kindly gave me a pair of ear defenders to wear when I'm driving the Black Pig. Not sure about the legality of wearing them on the road but it saves me from getting the screaming habdabs on a decent run !

No Alex, having a heavy right foot has that effect in the snow with a 260bhp motor.

The book power of the Pig is given in as 64kw (nasty foreign) which converts to .... wait for it.... 84hp DIN !!!!!!!
When you've finished with your engine Alex ............... A nice conversion job beckons. I'd probably be dead in a week !

There's no amount of right foot making my tin can on wheels go anywhere in the snow.
Is it that loud that you have to wear ear defenders? Brilliant. I've just been doing some Googling, I bet people think they are getting invaded when you turn up in that!
I'd love to have a look next time you're around, I'll drive over and check out PP's barge at the same time!

Yes, it really IS that loud. Not the exhaust, just the box of thrashing bits that sits alongside the driver. Recommended Euro Regs for decibel limits. ha.ha.ha.ha.ha.ha.ha.ha. etc.

So is yours the 712? Is that the only 6x6 they do?
