Can you do control alt delete or start > run > msconfig, or does it throw up access denied messages?

What happens when you control alt delete?
Why can't you get into safe mode?

I haven't got a clue about this but i do like learning off you guys, just googled, would this help.
) Click on the Start Menu and click into the “Search programs and files” dialog box 2) Type in the following and then hit enter; gpedit.msc 3) With gpedit now open go to the following section: User Configuration\Administrative Templates\Start Menu and Taskbar 4) Double click on ‘Remove and Prevent Access to the Shut Down command’ 5) Set the option to “Disabled” 6) Click Apply
the shut down button should be back in the Start Menu.

/rolls eyes.
It's a two way system dude, when you ask for help and I try to figure out what's wrong you need to respond to me before I can suggest solutions. Otherwise we'd be sat here pasting solutions to problems that don't exist...
All I was saying was restoring to a backup is not the best way to fix a problem. You should try figuring it out (with help) before you resort to that.

I do not think Willo was being unreasonable. When you are staring at a blank screen or a keyboard that does not respond as you would wish/ would expect then "trying to figure it out" is far from easy and could take days of research - for most of which you would need access to a computer/ internet!. Ex0 obviously has a level of knowledge about how these computers work that is MILES above my incompetence level so he may be able to figure it out - me? I just shout for help and folks like Bert get me out of a mess

I don't think I was being unreasonable either. I asked him questions and he wasn't responding. Gpedit changes do not happen randomly, it will turn out to be malware.
I wasn't really doing anything different from what Bert did, the only difference was I was getting more information before I started looking for solutions.
