Rumours circulating in the Brookside fandom that CBS Drama was to possibly re-run the former Channel 4 soap are entirely unfounded CBS tell us.
Earlier this week hopes were raised for Brookside fans when gossip, which also ended up being placed on Wiki as ‘fact’ spread that the Liverpool produced soap was to be one of a couple of new acquisitions for CBS Drama.
The channel have a wide mix of American and British shows currently in their schedules, but presently no UK soap operas.
Lee Brady, spokesperson for the team who are currently petitioning to get the cul-de-sac serial released on DVD told ATV earlier this week when the reports had not been denied:
“Its great to see that someone has got brains to repeat one of, if not the best, soap that their has been on UK television. This should make all Brookside fans happy and at last we get some decent television to watch on our screens.”
However a spokesperson for CBS Drama told ATV Today: “This is just a rumour” and there was no truth in it. It is unlikely that CBS Drama will be screening the show as it doesn’t fall into the channel’s glamorous styled drama remit such as ITV's former camp saga, Footballers' Wives.
Brookside, running from 1982 to 2003, was noted for its gritty storylines and earthy characters.
Fans continue to hope that a channel or DVD company will provide them with episodes of Brookside once more
