Liverpool will be the first UK city to have its own fire bikes LIVERPOOL is set to become the first city in the UK to use fire-fighting motorbikes complete with their own pumps. The city will get two bikes, costing £30,000 each, in an effort to combat more than 8,000 anti- social fires set off every year, including bonfires, bin and rubbish fires, which would otherwise need a call out from a conventional fire engine. But with 50 litres of water on each bike, mixed with a foaming chemical with a range of 11m, they can extinguish much more than rubbish fires and can even put out two burning cars in two minutes. The radical new technology was masterminded by Danish firm Fireexpress and is mounted on the back of a high- performance police version of the BMW R 1200 RT. THE ECHO

I've seen this working and it's suprisingly efective - it doesn't look like it can carry enough water but it makes it go a long way and can easily put out a car fire
