Sorry to highjack a request thread but I suppose it is a request in a way?

Went to Woodchurch church yesterday to photograph graves. Considering it is the oldest church around, it is a disgrace. Most of the graves are totally overgrown apart from a few around the church itself.

There is so much history attached to that place and I can't believe it is being allowed to fester like this. Surely they can get a gang of lads on community service to strim the place or something? Mind you, I wouldn't mind betting that infringes their human rights?

Most graves appear to have kerbs around them and are packed very close together, so you can imagine it is pretty dangerous trying to walk between them when you can't see what is under the grass/weeds/brambles etc.

I bet there are people on here whose ancestors lie in there and I reckon it is an insult to them. It is certainly an insult to those who died in the war and have a commonwealth war grave that is barely visible.

Rant over. Thanks.

I quite agree, lots of ancestors buried there, been quite a few times, it has got worse over the years, it beats me the amount of money it costs for burial plots, they cannot keep the areas tidy & well cut.
The ones that anoy me the most are the Vicars & churchyards that have signs saying Wildlife area or some such rubbish, just an excuse not to upkeep the grounds to me.
Recently did some research for a lady in Australia in Bidston Church, a well kept and beautiful graveyard. Been to graveyards all around the country, but some of Wirral's are a total disgrace. cry

When i went to Woodchurch High, there was a group that volunteered to clear all the graves, when they were doing some work at the end of the graveyard. Must have been about 2000. Holy Cross it's called i think.

If enougth people go to church and put money on the plate then the church and its surrounding can be well looked after, if there is little attendance by people and no money is donated then there is nothing in the pot to keep things neat and tidy . ITS AS SIMPLE AS THAT.

To attend church, one has to be religious. I am not. I am however very interested in history and especially local history. This is virtually an ancient monument and as such should be looked after the same way that the very rich national trust look after other buildings. Collections should only be a suppliment. SIMPLE AS THAT!

Never saw that or would have put a few quid in. Is it still working?
