Wallasey teenagers jailed for eight-day spree of muggings TWO teenagers who carried out an eight-day crimewave of knife-point robberies were last week jailed for a total of nine-and-a-half years.
Between November 2 and 10 last year, David Lavery, 18, and ex-soldier Michael Richardson, 19, carried out a series of attacks on lone people walking home at night in Wallasey.
Liverpool crown court heard the masked and often armed pair targeted vulnerable victims, including a 13-year-old boy.
They robbed their victims of iPods, mobile phones and wallets.
In an attack on November 4, last year, one of their victims was injured as he tried to flee the pair and was chased into a pond in Central Park.
Jailing them, Judge William George said neither yet were classified as causing a serious risk of significant harm to the public and did not need to be locked up indefinitely.
But he said the use of knives needed to be clamped down on by the courts.
He said: “Knifes are a bane in our society and a serious problem.
“The presence of knives is an aggravating factor.”
He added that the pair been carrying out a “determined joint enterprise” to rob people of their valuables.
Judge George sent Lavery, of Poulton Road, Wallasey, who has previous convictions for criminal damage and breaching court orders, to a Young Offenders’ Institute for five years.
Richardson, of Adelaide Street, Wallasey, who had no previous convictions, was locked up for four-and-a-half years.
The court heard he had been in the army but had left in order to care for his ill mum.
Barristers defending both men told how they had difficult backgrounds.
They both pleaded guilty to six robberies, four counts of possessing an offensive weapon and asked for a further robbery and attempted robbery to be taken into account.I would like to say what an excellent job Merseyside Police have done in apprehending these two scumbags. My son was one of the victims of this pair of thugs mugged. The Police had expected them to get about 3 years for the offenses. It really does restore a persons faith in the Criminal Justice System to see at least one of them get the maximum sentence. The police that dealt with this case have been wonderful to our family, they updated us each time there was a development in the scase and treated my son with great sensitivity which helped get him through a very frightening experience. I really want people to know what a fantastic Police force we have here in Wirral and give them the credit they deserve for a job very well done.

They go around with knives and rob people at knife point and the judge reckons they were "not yet classified as being a serious risk of significant harm to the public?" What planet do these dispensers of justice live on or come from? The mind boggles.

"Left the army to look after his sick mum" yeah right, the wingeing cowardly toerag. The mitigating shoit they put forward to get lighter sentences is absolutely gobsmacking. It's a wonder he didn't cry in the dock. Utter barstards!
