A lady from Suffolk has emailed me asking the following question. Can anyone help?

"Hello. I'm trying to find out if my grandad had a shop in New Ferry in the 1960's. His name was James (Jim) Young and he had a hardware/ironmongers shop in the area but I can't remember exactly where! I grew up on the Wirral but now live in Suffolk. All I know is that his shop closed down in the 1950's or 60's. If you have any info I'd be most grateful.

Many thanks,

Jan Gregory (Mrs)."

there was one on New Ferry Rd,corner of Napier Rd, were Spa is now, don't know the name of the owner.
Spa is two shops knocked into one, first was the ironmongers and next door was Talbots, they were a general grocery store, the ironmongers sold all sorts--buckets & spades, rubber rings [for the baths] parrifin,etc,etc,....i always remember being sent ''up the road'' to have the parrifin tin filled for the heater in the green house!and soon as you walked in the shop you could smell the stuff!!

can't remember if there were anymore, maybe someone else will remember.
Chris.
