"A station which has totally disappeared was between Rock Ferry & Birkenhead Town. It was called, first, Lime Kiln Lane (later St.Paul’s Rd.) & in about 1855 the name changed to Tranmere. It closed a few years later; it was probably too close to Rock Ferry. Incidentally, it’s worth noting that there was never a main line station at Green Lane."

Yes, St.Paul's Rd. was previously Lime Kiln Lane. Pitt St. was the next street South of St. Paul's Rd. See map from about 1912. It would have been roughly where Fairhaven Close is now.
No pictures are known of the station, which pre-dated Rock Ferry station, but there seems to be some evidence of a possible station entrance in the Southern bridge abutment in the form of a patch of glazed white brick.
By the time of this map, the station was long closed & the new one opened at Rock Ferry.

I have taken this from a rare road map from the early 1930s and enlarged the area that you speak of

This is an area & subject I know little about, but this 1840 OS map may add to the discussion.

a few years ago, scanned it onto my pc, and did'nt the pc go and crash!!! and i lost everything! picture too!
now i back up everything on memory sticks.
don't know what year the cottage was but it was before anything was built in new ferry......i live in New Ferry.

The area on this 'modern' map (presumably 2007) matches the area on the 1840 map. I'd say that the station is now south of that shown on the old map.

The station shown on the 1840 map is St.Paul's Rd./Limekiln Lane. The short-lived(1846-62)Rock Lane station was where Rock Lane West crosses the railway, near the D of Derby House on the map.
