Man shot with shotgun in drive-by attack on streets of Liverpool Norris Green
A MAN was treated in hospital today after being blasted with a shotgun.
The 21-year-old victim was attacked on Cottesbrook Road, Norris Green, just before midnight.
It is believed a car was seen driving around the area just before the shooting.
It is understood the victim was on the street alone when the car screeched to a halt nearby and something was shouted by one of the passengers.
It is thought a shotgun was then fired from within the car before it sped off.
The dazed victim took a few seconds to realise he had been shot.
When he did, he ran home and was taken to hospital by a relative, where he was treated by doctors for “superficial injuries to his upper body” before discharging himself in the early hours of the morning. He spoke to police while being treated.
The ECHO understands the attack was gang-related and has heightened fears in the community that the teenage gangs that blighted L11 for so long could be coming back to prominence.
Officers from the anti-gun anti-gang Matrix team were set to take to the streets today to reassure locals and patrol the area.
The area was taped off by police as crime scene investigators looked for forensic clues.
Police say, at this stage of the investigation, they believe the shooting to be a targeted attack and appealed to the public for information.
They hope to speak to the victim again today.Anyone with information should contact the police gun crime hotline on 0800 458 1211 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111. THE ECHO
