Birkenhead North doesn't/didn't have a building bridging the tracks.

There's a real danger that the left will drag Britain back to the 1970s, with secure well-paid jobs, ample housing, properly-funded NHS and social care, free tuition, student grants, final salary pensions, affordable rail fares and fabulous films and music. David Osland 2025

I can remember those old platform canopys just about still being there in the early 80s along with a lot of rubbish strewn down the grassy bank. The old platform on the left of the photo (you cant see it because the train is in the way)was removed in the early 90s I think.

I have just looked at the photo again properly and you are right. The removed platform is the one that the old photo was taken from. The one on the right is the existing one.

you must remember the surviving platform was widened some time ago so the track layout is not the same as it was! i remember the old platform that still had the old signs and ironwork in situ when it was demolished (1990's??) if i recall, parts of the ironwork etc were saved for the wirral transport museum that WAS going to be in the Cheshire Lines Building! unfortunately that never took off
