FIRE crews spent two hours rescuing a man who got stuck in a garbage chute at a block of low-rise flats in Eastham.
The man had been disposing of household waste down the chute at the flats in Clifton Avenue when he realised some of it had become stuck.
He had leaned through an access hatch into the narrow passageway in an attempt to clear it, but then found himself trapped halfway inside from the waist up by his own ribcage.
A spokeswoman for Mersey Fire and Rescue said the alarm was raised by a neighbour at 9.10am on Tuesday morning.
“We were told that a man was stuck in a waste disposal chute,” she said. “He’d apparently thrown some rubbish into it but it had become blocked.
“When he reached in headfirst to clear it he had become stuck, bent double at the waist. It must have been very painful and very uncomfortable.”
Two crews attended from Bebington fire station along, briefly, with a members of the search and rescue team.
It took two hours for them to remove bricks, mortar and metal before they could fully free the man. A building surveyor was also at the scene.
