Sorted some new tyres, Nexen N3000, also had tracking done and it was out.

The steering has been shuddering at higher speeds (65+) ever since I got it back on the road, but yesterday it got really bad even driving at 40.

Bought some new brake pads and brake fluid from Halfords today, replaced the pads and flushed the brakes finding there was a lot of air in the system.

Bled the front brakes fine and took the cover off the rear drum and started on the back only to find there was no fluid coming out of the bleed screw, but instead pissing out of a piston seal.

So I aint driving it til I get a seal repair kit.

I dont want to have to spend a lot of money on repairing it as I'm planning on buying these rear hubs with discs.

Does anyone know where I can get a rear drum seal repair kit from? And if so, are they open on a Sunday??

The shuddering sounds like a wheel bearing on the way out mate

Buy a new wheel cylinder as there cheap enough (No more than £15, but a seal kit wont be too much cheaper) and saves you having to fiddle round changing a seal, plus you have a new prt

Bought some rear hubs yesterday with drive shafts included, so rear drums will be replaced for discs when I fit them.

Once they're fitted, I think I'll get some grooved discs and greenstuff pads

Next thing to buy is some drop links as one of them is a bit goosed and is affecting my steering above 40mph.

I've heard EBC aren't much good, but they have gotta be better than halfords pads lol

I'm only after them as apparently there's less dust from them

Unless they have changed the compounds, Id steer clear of Greenstuffs.

I ran them on a 200 a few years back, and they got too hot and warped 2 sets of disks. Ive heard of people using them without problems on smaller cars, but the weight of the beemer... think

Have you priced up something like Mintex 1144s or Ferodo DS2500s?

Unsure the drop links will be the root of the steering problem though. They tend to "knock" over bumps with very worn bushes and will make the car wallow a bit more if they snap as they connect the anti rollbar which wont really effect the steering unless really pushing the car on.

...what is the steering doing past 40mph matey?

Not after performance pads, standard will do, only wanted the greenstuff to reduce dust

I get knocking from the side thats worn every time I go over bumps or change direction, it might not be causing the steering problem, but it needs doing.

The steering wheel wobbles as if the wheels are unbalanced.

I got all 4 balanced, and it was still doing it.
Thought it might be the brake pads being unevenly worn or a caliper seized, bled the brakes, calipers are fine and bought new pads, so the discs are probably warped.

I'll be replacing all the discs and pads once the new rear hubs are on though smile
