Hi, Dave, I didn't work there very long; probably less than a year, 1952/53. After that I became a cinema projectionist, first at the Plaza, then at the Ritz. Went into the Air Force in June 1956 & never went back to Birkenhead. I visit it quite a lot now though.

Gateway in Moreton, which then became Kwik Save and now Somerfield. Solo which was owned by Somerfield was also in Moreton, but it was something else before it was Solo. It then became Somerfield, and when Somerfield and Kwik Save merged (until the shitty Labour government decided the likes of Tesco and Asda shouldnt have so much competition) it was eventually bought by Cool Trader and that stands there to this day.  There used to be a clothes shop in Chadwick Street that used to sell school uniforms and things it was quite old fashioned from what I remember.
