I dont think it was behind the police station i have a feeling it was behind the shops at the very bottom of well lane, there is an entry like entrance there now that takes you up to buildings. Just remember my dad talking about it as he used to Box when he was younger

No it was deffo behind the police station, there was steps at the side that led up to it,I remember wandering in there as a small lad. The buisness up the side of the shops was a joiners workshop and office about 40 years ago (at least I think it was a joinery workshop)the building and workshop are still there.

I vaguely remember a building in Victoria Park, directly behind the police station. This would have been early 1970s and it was removed around the mid 1970s. I remember it having steps up to it and being something to do with sports or training. Is that the same building?

Sounds like the old bowling pavilion, like most park pavilions it had steps up either side to the balcony. This was immediately behind the Well Lane houses at the Police Station end, but I thought it was well gone by the 1970s. There was another smaller building behind it, I think part of that sold ice-creams at one time?

Then there is the now derelict Community Centre building on the Albany Road side, I remember something else being there before that was built but it might just have been an electricity substation?

There's a real danger that the left will drag Britain back to the 1970s, with secure well-paid jobs, ample housing, properly-funded NHS and social care, free tuition, student grants, final salary pensions, affordable rail fares and fabulous films and music. David Osland 2025

God help us,
Come yourself,
Don't send Jesus,
This is no place for children.
