Around 1979 when I was 15 I was allowed to attend an art college on Whetstone Lane, Birkenehad. This was instead of a double art period (2 hrs) at my school where I and others were probably thought good enough to attend a proper art class. It was a bit daunting at first as all the other students there were 17/18 + Does anyone have any memories of it and does the building still exist ?? Did anyone attend about the same time ?
Birkenhead Institute left in 1970 and I can't remember what happened to it until Beechcroft Training opened around 1982 (maybe as part of Wirral Chamber of Commerce Business Centre). It is now a Mosque and Islamic Centre.
I have seen reference to Wirral College of Art, Whetstone Lane.
There's a real danger that the left will drag Britain back to the 1970s, with secure well-paid jobs, ample housing, properly-funded NHS and social care, free tuition, student grants, final salary pensions, affordable rail fares and fabulous films and music. David Osland 2025

Good find Bert! I didn't realise Laird School of Art did more than clothing design, painting and sculpture, cooking was definitely a surprise! Looks like it covered everything that was presentable.
