Think this is a disgusting political move by EU , threatening to stop the export of vaccine. They’ve messed up and now wish to block our success in the vaccination programme. There is people dying of covid and they won’t use the supply of over seven million doses sitting in fridges they have because of unfounded fear of blood clots. Fiddling while Rome burns comes to mind!
I’m counting down the days for my second jab and so hope there is no delay, I was pleased that it looked like everyone would be vaccinated soon. Obviously this only my thoughts and sincerely hope that they not playing a political punish us chess game, they should get on with vaccinating their own people now without any more delay

So much for the assurances given by Matt Hancock yesterday, that there would be no delays.

All these countries were playing party politics with the AZ vaccine talking it down from the offset. Like Germany first saying they are not going to give it to those over 65, then other EU countries not giving it at all. I believe If we were still in the EU they would not be doing this.

The UK is doing great on its roll out of the vaccine, I got my first one on Thursday.

It turns out the EU have not used 41% of the AZ vaccine, yet they are discussing a ban on exports of it.
France has used only 55% of its AstraZeneca vaccines.
Germany has used only 56% of its AstraZeneca vaccines.
Six other EU countries have used 50% or less: Luxembourg, Netherlands, Romania, Sweden, Portugal, Greece.
Across the EU, only 58.9% of available AstraZeneca vaccine doses have been administered.
The rate for all other vaccines in the EU is 83.5%.

"The first EU country to ignore the EU Commission’s diktat on only buying vaccines under the EU Commission’s programme was Hungary. We invite readers to take a wild guess at which EU country has now vaccinated a greater percentage of its people than any other?"

The EU are coming across as a farce at the moment. I voted remain but now I'm glad we have left this union.

AstraZeneca will not make vaccines at cost again thanks to EU row.

"After enduring months of baseless criticism and browbeating from the EU, AstraZeneca now reportedly regret selling their vaccine at cost price as a result of the reputational damage inflicted by European leaders, and wouldn’t replicate the strategy if another pandemic hits. What a surprise…

Speaking on the Today Programme, BBC medical editor Fergus Walsh claimed that multiple senior sources inside AstraZeneca said that in future, the company was unlikely to forego the profits enjoyed by the likes of Pfizer (set to make billions from its $19.50 jab, compared to the $4 tag for AstraZeneca’s) now that the European Commission has smeared the vaccine with claims of blood clotting and low efficacy. Not to mention threatening export controls, and blaming AstraZeneca for their shortfall in vaccine supply…"

Thank you very much EU, you have now bolloxed up vaccine production for new viruses in the future.

It is worth noting that the EU would have made a lot of money from the contract with Pfizer. Possibly, the reason they rubbished the Oxford AZ vaccine was because they would make zilch profit from it.

I am not too good reading through lengthy contracts but here is the one the EU had with Pfizer if anyone is interested.

The EU make me so mad!! I’m not good with all the legal jargon etc, it just seems to me they only interested in knocking us and trying to scupper our success with vaccine programme. They trying to put a spoke in our plans and say they want vaccine but letting it sit in fridges instead of peoples arms! Look at Europe third wave and they still stalling with vaccine!
I hope the EU collapses and their pettiness and greed confined to history !

The EU are not behaving like adults are they. I reckon the reason they are constantly trying to bat us down is because they thought we wouldn't last without them.
We are doing just fine without them, and because of this, other countries are trying to find a way out of the EU.

AZ are not making any money from this vaccine which was funded by the British tax payer and created in Oxford, and the EU have done nothing but bash it.
Here is the other lengthy contract between the EU and AZ. It shows the cost as €2.90 per dose, and if they sell it on to other countries or member states, they are not allowed to profit from it, haha.
