a little snippit of interesting info i found out today,as i said in an earlier post a friend of mine is working in the cellar of the marriots building,he tells me that there are tunnels in the basement which go under oxton road to the brewery building(well they used to).he could not get in as they have been bricked up.glynn mariot was there and does not remember ever going in there, but a guy called tony who worked in the brewery does.one would presume that they were filled in to some extent when the brewery came down.
they were big tunnels, big enough to walk through.

I worked at both . The building with the Walkers advert is The Old English Gents. The main building was demolished and baught by Happy Als, who built a garage on the land when he was starting up about mid sixties. He ended up with the whole block minus the Old English which as you know is O.E.G cafe.
This would make the other street sign Brook Street

Not that long ago actually, the majority of the buildings were still in use by a vehicle repair/painting company - whose name escapes me - suffice to say had a car repaired there @2003

The old Birkenhead Brewery offices (now Marriott Motorcycles) in Oxton Road are on fire.

My grandad's brother worked there in the early 1900's - but, he died after falling down the cellar steps. Anyone know where I might find any employee/employer records for this company (if any), please ?

I can remember being told that The Birkenhead Brewery had its own Well in the brewery, but I can't remember whether it was Oxton Road or Cleveland Street

I would imagine both, the older brewery in Cleveland Street would have chosen the location for a supply of water. The Oxton one pumped from the same aquifer as Springhill waterworks just up the hill which had a number of wells, its not clear if it was pumped from Springhill or had their own well, I'd guess the later.
