Thanks very much, j_demo, diggingdeeper and Salmon.
The phone is a blackview P2. The SD card wasn't formatted, as there were some photo's still on it when I put it in the new phone. The sd card is a micro one. I think I have an adaptor, I will check. I will try the recuva download first. I didn't know ccleaner did a recuva either.
Are these downloads free or do I have to pay?
Hopefully It will work!

I have now tried Recuva. It did find photo's, but unfortunately, not the ones I wanted. I also did the deep recovery, without success. I think the only hope now is recovering them off my old phone. I have asked in a phone repair shop, if they could try and recover them from my old phone, but they said it wasn't in their capabilities. I will try another shop. But I have found this online - EaseUS MobiSaver, that recovers photo's from a factory reset phone. Has anyone used this? I will see if the shop can help first.
Just a question, can you state where photo's are stored on your phone, ie on the sd card? When I take photo's they go in one folder, and I presume, they are on my sd card. But it seems that some go on the card and some on the phone memory, hence I lost some. I only lost last week's photo's. Any other I have lost I have already put on my laptop, so not bothered about those.
Thanks again for all your good advice.

It depends on the phone. On Android camera pictures normally go into the DCIM folder on the phone's internal memory unless otherwise stated. Depending on the operating system and the app, you should be able to go into settings and change the storage location. On my phone I open the camera app, swipe left to right and it brings up a menu to choose. On other phones you may have to click the cog symbol or three dots and change it there.
