My knitting group makes up blankets in various sizes and we are looking for local charities that might appreciate them. We have given them to Charles Thompson Mission and Wirral Women and Children's Aid in the past, but they don't always have room for them. Does anyone know of other local charities that might be able to use them as well? Then we can spread things out a bit; we're trying to keep it local if possible. Thanks.

We also make 'twiddle muffs' for dementia sufferers; care homes or hospital wards usually welcome those and there is always a demand. They are fun to make out of oddments of wool decorated with braid, buttons etc and are much appreciated, if anyone's interested in having a go. There are plenty of patterns available online.

There are a few different organisations listed here, if it's still up to date , although not so local !

Knit for Syria

Syrian winters can be cold, and displaced people can be living in damp and draughty conditions such as tents, caves and abandoned buildings. As well as collecting money to buy supplies, Hand in Hand for Syria also collects knitted or crocheted blankets and clothing which is then taken to Turkey to be distributed in Syria. www.handinhandforsyria.org.uk

'SIBOL' - Sunshine International Blankets of Love

'SIBOL' was formed in January 2010 making 'Sunshine Blankets' for the Elderly in Care & Nursing Homes. They’re looking for knitters to knit a blanket so that a lonely elderly person will know someone’s thinking of them.

Oxfam

They no longer send out the blankets made from volunteers’ knitted squares but the charity do ask for knitters to make blankets and clothes to be sold in their shops and also at music festivals. You can find several patterns on their website.

Humankind has not woven the web of life. We are but one thread within it. Whatever we do to the web, we do to ourselves. All things are bound together. All things connect.
