Friends of Wallasey Central Library, Seacombe Library and Wirral Library Service will be at Seacombe Ferry Terminal tomorrow giving out free books. Anyone using the ferry or just dropping in is welcome to pick up a book and find our what's going on at your local library. People will also be able to sign up and get a library card. We'll be starting around 9am. There's lots of free parking and also free tea and coffee up to 9.40am for ferry users.

I dont get how or why libraries which are supposed to be so starved of cash they need to be shut down, seem to always be practically giving books away at cheaper prices than even the charity shops ? When things are this tough, why rather than risk closure, dont they just stick with books they have, swap more with other libraries to ring the changes, and encourage people who buy books , to bring book donations IN instead? I bought a few books the other day for kids 5 for £1, not perfect condition, but very very good, adult ones 25p. Seems like they arent that strapped for cash when you look at the prices of new replacement books. Better to be a bit out of date surely , and stay open?I know staffing is the major expense, but book costs must also add up considerably over the year.

Books are either disposed of because they are damaged or haven't had much interest from borrowers. If people don't borrow them there is even less chance they want to purchase them so the prices are low.

When I worked in a library many years ago, all disposals were purposely destroyed and then thrown away, at least things have improved - I still have one book I rescued and sellotaped all the pages back together again.

Kids all going in to school dressed up..quite a few mums late rushing in after trying to get kids dressed up or a quick dash to Tesco to buy an outfit. One or 2 kids in uniform either forgotten or Jehovahs Witness kids!
Harry Potter , Star wars and a few ninja turtles for the lads and sleeping beauty, goldilocks for the girls. Teachers spending the first hour trying to get the kids de-hyped.
Hoping a mum or teacher was going as Lady Godiva nono
