Found this nice little video Collaboration with Tim Brunsden looking at how Urban Regeneration affects the lives of the people it is supposed to help. https://vimeo.com/12464348
Please do not adjust your mind, there is a slight problem with reality
I've seen this before TC, it's pretty sad. Is Charlie still holding out and living there still I wonder? I remember seeing all those roads of empty houses and thinking solid housing being knocked down to build pretty inferior ones. It's been proven in Liverpool how nice you can make these houses renovated. It's a great shame..
Absolutely agree with you cools . Sad as anything , both for those people, and sad that as you say , the replacement houses arent even as good in many cases, as the originals. Whats the excuse I wonder when its already been shown how well these houses scrub up so to speak , and its obvious its what the locals want .
I'm sure there was a documentary made about this, (ages ago). He (Charlie) seemed happy enough, and agree with Venice and Cools about the quality of the build. Is the land still undeveloped ? If it is, questions should be asked at the Planning Department, and if no decent reply, then Frank Field may have the answer.
To knock down homes/houses for re-development ,and then leave the land for years is nothing short of a fix on behalf of one department or another and /or someone turning a blind eye, i.e. if the land has been sold off. Not sure about all the detail, so my assumptions, may not be correct at this present time, there again why would TC show the vid if the situation is still much the same.
Humankind has not woven the web of life. We are but one thread within it. Whatever we do to the web, we do to ourselves. All things are bound together. All things connect. ~Chief Seattle
At 0-40 seconds on the vid on the left side there's a building that looks like it could have been a pub (possibly The Graving Dock) Not sure on the map in blue is Charlie's house Any help would help
Moving around town I always deplore the destruction of some very vibrant communities that used to live here in Birkenhead, and for what? Woodside area devastated because they didn't have a clue as to what would happen once they moved the transport hub out of the area and dispersed to places people would've passed anyway on their way down there and alighted if they needed to. Desolation everywhere the council planners have poked their two brain cells in. Reminds me of the old Greek saying about flowers dying everywhere a Turkish horse puts its hooves. Or something like that.
It was "The Graving Dock" Derek, I think it closed down after a burning barrel of tar was left on the door step.Should be something in the archives about it.I know it was in The Birkenhead News. "Happy Days"

I think I'm right in saying that those houses in the the street where Charlie lives were renovated with new kitchens and bathrooms not long before they were knocked down. All the units were being stolen as quickly as the were being put in.

How apalling - Wonder why there was no security after they lost the first one or two.
