I hesitate to suggest this for fear some brainless councillor takes it up, but here goes:

The Birkenhead Internationai Regeneration Development (BIRD) involves demolition of every thing between Conway Street, Park Road North and Laird Street and the docks, and the construction of a much needed Birkenhead International Airport.

The site would allow a 3,000 metre runway - nearly half as long again as Liverpool's one - and the three or four underground stations are already there to serve the terminal buildings that would undoubtedly spring up to handle the throng of passengers. Birkenhead park would be converted into a massive multi storey car park. The site thus brilliantly links Road, Rail, Air and Sea! A spaceport added on Bidston Moss would add an additional link to this hub,

The regenerative effects of airports are well know, They bring wealth and prosperity to the whole area, providing hundreds of jobs. How can it possibly fail?

I am available for consultancy work at a very reasonable rate of £5,000 a day (or part thereof plus VAT) should the council require it.

The same brainless councillor would only allow planes to do 20 mph for take off.

To ensure the success of Wirral-Air which is the commercial arm of the BIRD project by destroying every other form of transport the following have either been achieved or are in planning.

Removal of the mainline railway interconnection - Woodside Station and mainline network to London Paddington and Kent Coast removed.
Removal of substantial docks - Wirral Waters to close off docks.
Make road transport untenable - remove car parks, increase use of yellow lines and introduce 20MPH speed limits randomly.
Make bus service untenable - remove Woodside bus terminus without replacement and replace direct routes with scenic routes.
Punish the use of vehicles - toll roads to our nearest City.
Reduce viability of ferry - turn it into a tour instead of a form of transport, reduce frequency.

There's a real danger that the left will drag Britain back to the 1970s, with secure well-paid jobs, ample housing, properly-funded NHS and social care, free tuition, student grants, final salary pensions, affordable rail fares and fabulous films and music. David Osland 2025

Anything that gets rid of Birkenhead as we know it would be welcomed, for sure. Only problem is which remote island to re-home the current inhabitants.
