The posters were discovered behind walls on the platforms after they were removed as part of the station’s upgrade.
Among the curiosities revealed are an old ECHO advertising poster which reads: “Mrs Maybrick: Liverpool’s flypaper murderess” – a reference to an ECHO series about the 1889 trial of Florence Maybrick, who was convicted of poisoning her husband James but later acquitted – along with ones promoting New Brighton and a concert for the Royal Philharmonic Hall Hungarian Relief Fund.
The original sign for Hamilton Square station has also been uncovered during the work.
Even though they have been hidden from public view for decades, the posters are still clearly legible.

Network Rail, working with Merseytravel and Merseyrail, is investing £4m to improve platform and tunnel areas which will include new flooring, brighter lighting and better passenger information.
The station will look cleaner, lighter and less cluttered and it will be easier for passengers to plan their journey – see the artist's impressions here.
Sarah Wharton, project manager, said: “The posters have been photographed and recorded by local historians and are an interesting insight into the old station, Liverpool and Merseyside in years gone by.
“Work continues to transform the station and the redeveloped facilities will be a positive addition to the railway in Merseyside, building on the recent improvements made at Lime Street, Liverpool Central and James Street.”
The station is closed to passengers until spring next year.
Trains continue to run through the station but are not stopping.
