An investigation is underway following a suspected arson attack in New Brighton.
Emergency services were called to Victoria Parade at about 11pm, on Tuesday, October 29, to a report of a fire.
Fire officers found the front window of the house had been smashed. A blaze in the front room was then extinguished.
An elderly woman and a boy were in the property when the fire started, but had made their way outside when fire crews arrived.
They were taken to hospital as a precautionary measure for assessment as they were suffering the effects of smoke inhalation.
The scene has been cordoned-off for examination and house-to-house enquiries have been undertaken.
A full investigation into the incident is currently ongoing.
